What is more important? Hits, Files, Pages for Visits?

Site statistics provide many different results - Its important to know which results are relevant.

By far the most important number that a web statistics report can give you is the number of 'Visits' or 'Unique visitors'.

Visits/ Unique Visitors

This is the most important figure as it tells you how many people have been to your web site for any given period. When looking at your web site statistics the most important thing they can tell you is this:

Is your web site growing or declining in popularity over time?

The Visits and or the Unique Visitors statistic will tell you this. In the example below you can see that the web site has grown steadily in popularity since it began in August 2004. The month of May is down a little but this screen shot was taken on the 10th of May so the statistics for this month are not yet complete.
